Asian American Music Festival
DESCRIPTION
One of the most versatile and cosmopolitan saxophonist in pop, soul and contemporary jazz for over 35 years, Michael Paulo is producing the Asian American Music Festival once again in Los Angeles bringing its unique sounds in celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage month. It features some of the most renown Asian American Artists in America, who have made inroads on a national and global scale.

FEATURED ARTISTS include: Saxophonists Jeff Kashiwa, Michael Paulo, Wakana Inamura, Austin Gatus; Pianists Rene Paulo, Tateng Katindig, Kimo Cornwell, Dave Iwataki; Guitarists Kay-Ta Matsuno, Fred Schreuders, Bassist/ Vocals Bruce Hamada, Benjamin Sheppherd; Vocalist Terry Steele, Kimaya, “TEX” Nanka Yutaro on Harmonica and 14 year old child prodigy Vinnie Aguas on drums.

Part of the proceeds of the Asian American Music Festival (AAMF) will benefit the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center and the AAMF music scholarship fund. The first AAMF scholarship will be awarded this year to Saxophonist Austin Gatus. Austin’s story was very compelling to Producer Paulo as at a young age Austin has found a way to give back and help others through his performances for children from Rady Children’s Hospital, Starlight Foundation and other organizations that help kids fight cancer as he himself was one of those kids but is now a cancer survivor. Austin is attending UCLA on a scholarship and will use the AAMF funds to augment his education.

According to Paulo: “With my lifelong passion for Music, I’m hosting an event unlike any other that primarily focuses on the Asian Culture embracing American Music Culture such as Jazz and R&B . As America is a melting pot of cultures it is important in the assimilation of Asian Culture to embrace things that are uniquely American. It is through this that we can become a part of the mainstream culture. Also in most instances Asian Americans aren't readily associated with Jazz, R&B and Pop Music. The festival aims to change that perception by featuring as many of the best Asian artist and musicians that have had mainstream success. We also feature new and upcoming young artists and give them an opportunity to be seen and also perform with many of the veteran artists who have forged a pathway into mainstream American music culture. We will have the biggest line up of Asian artists at a music festival event.”

Michael Paulo/ Festival Producer and Promoter
Michael Paulo has excelled both on the artistic side and in business. As an artist his career has spanned four decades. He has produced numerous events for the past twenty years and also ran his own record label in the 90’s. Paulo cut his teeth as a member of the band Kalapana. He was the featured saxophonist for the legendary jazz vocalist Al Jarreau for 12 years. With ten solo releases to date Paulo is one of the most influential Asian American saxophonist in the world. As a performer and producer Paulo has participated in major jazz festivals around the world. His current projects include three festivals, three jazz concert series, and hosting private events. Through his performances and events he has raised over a million dollars for charitable causes.
