It's Jazz Appreciation Month and what better way to celebrate than with a free jazz festival! On Sunday, April 30th from 1-6 pm at the Vision Theater Parking Lot in Leimert Park, KJazz and the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center, along with the California Jazz and Blues Museum and the City of Los Angeles, proudly present the International Jazz Day Festival. The free festival will be hosted by our own LeRoy Downs and feature A Big Band Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with Barbara Morrison and Cathy Segal Garcia. Plus, Victor Orlando, Derf Reklaw, and Torre Brannon Reese will be performing, along with many more artists. The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra's 15th Anniversary Concert on May 7
The 67-member Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Mitch Glickman, will accompany guest vocalist Jane Monheit, who will honor Ella Fitzgerald on her centennial birthday. With support from the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra will perform a number of Ella's original orchestral arrangements including "Someone to Watch Over Me," "I Won't Dance," and "Our Love is Here to Stay," arranged by Nelson Riddle. The concert also includes music from George Duke, Alan Chan and Gordon Goodwin. Don't miss this special musical celebration. Tickets range from $35 to $100 VIP tickets. The $100 VIP tickets include a pre-concert reception at 6 pm, followed by preferred seats at the 7 pm concert. To learn more or purchase tickets, visit sjomusic.org/15thconcert. 28th annual Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival
The 28th annual Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The Blues stage features artists such as the Robby Krieger Band celebrating 50 years of the Doors' music, the Yardbirds, Mitch Ryder, and more! Dwayne Dopsie, Doug Kershaw, the Bayou Brothers, and jo-El Sonnier are some of the artists performing on the second stage, which features Cajun & Zydeco music. In addition to these two stages with dance floors, the Festival features a variety of food choices from authentic Cajun and Creole dishes to traditional barbecue.
